The Government of Cape Verde will award the first degree of the sporting merit medal to the absolute men’s handball team, which was runner-up in the 25th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), it was announced on Tuesday.
In a press release, the Government of Cape Verde said that the award will be held on Wednesday, “for their dedication, effort and exceptional merit demonstrated” and that culminated with the title of runner-up in the CAN and previously qualification for the world championship of this sport.
It is a recognition of the effort and unity of the players and technical team, of the Cape Verdean Handball Federation, of all the public and private entities that supported in different ways, until the conquest of the silver medal in the CAN2022 and, consequently, the qualification for the 28th Men’s World Championship in 2023″, explained the same source.
On July 18, the Cape Verde national handball team was crowned African runner-up in this sport, after losing 37-25 to Egypt in the final of the 25th edition of the CAN.
