Wales manager and former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs is facing trial on charges of assault and assault and assault on his ex-girlfriend in a case that turned his coaching career on its head.

The 48-year-old has pleaded not guilty to charges that carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Giggs was accused of assaulting and injuring his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville on 1 November 2020 when police were called to his home in Manchester.

The former United star denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance last April. We note that he was supposed to hear his statements in January, but the trial was postponed due to the backlog of cases in the courts due to the effects of the Corona virus.

Giggs stepped down as coach of the national team in June after being on leave following his arrest.
