Chelsea have announced the official departure of Timo Werner from Leipzig.

The player has signed a contract that will run until the end of next season in 2026, just two years after leaving the German club for Chelsea.

A Blues statement read: “The striker is returning to the German club, where he spent four successful years before moving to West London, leaving Stamford Bridge for his homeland as European and world champions.”

He added: “A season of ups and downs, once again interrupted due to a period with Covid, revived for a short period in April with four goals in many matches, a Premier League double in a 6-0 win over Southampton followed him another goal against Real Madrid followed before he scored in the loss to Arsenal, although this was the last time he scored against the Blues.

“Everyone at Chelsea thanks Timo Werner for his contribution to our success over the past two years and we wish him all the best in his future career.”
