The Portuguese Fu Yu and Shao Jieni qualified this Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles competition at the European Multisport Championship in Munich, Germany, by beating the Slovaks Ema Labosova and Tatiana Kukulkova.
The Portuguese couple entered the match very well and easily reached 2-0, with runs of 11-6 and 11-9, but the Slovaks reacted and still won the third game 11-8.
The return to the discussion of the result continued in the fourth, when the Slovaks reached 6-1, but, from then on, the Portuguese reacted, with Fu Yu and Shao Jieni. same 7-7 and step to 9-8without giving the opponents a chance to respond and closing at 11-8, in 25 minutes.
In the quarterfinals, the Portuguese duo will meet later this day with the pair formed by the Austrian Sofia Polcanova and the Romanian Bernadette Szocz, a match that will be played from 3:35 p.m. (Portuguese time).
In addition to the women’s duo, on this day the six table tennis players who entered the main singles table will be in action, the four men (Marcos Freitas, Tiago Apolónia, João Monteiro and João Geraldo) and the two women (Fu Yu and Shao Jieni).
The second edition of the European multisport championship takes place in Munich until August 21 and brings together nine modalities, with Portugal represented in seven, namely athletics, canoeing, cycling, artistic gymnastics, rowing, table tennis and triathlon.
The Portuguese team has won two medals so far, one gold, from the cyclist Iúri Leitão, who was proclaimed European scratch champion, in track cycling, and one silver, from Auriol Dongmo, in shot put.
