The Australian national football team has hired its former Dutch coach Guus Hiddink to help him prepare for the World Cup final in Qatar scheduled for later this year, according to what was announced on Monday by the local football association.

Hiddink will be assistant coach to Graham Arnold in the national team’s last home preparation game ahead of the first World Final in the Middle East against neighboring New Zealand on 22 September in Brisbane.

The 75-year-old Dutchman said he was “happy to go to Australia because I talk to people from time to time about my career and always focus on my experience with the Soqueros,” referring to the Australian national team title that Hiddink managed 13 games in period from 2005 to 2006. With 8 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses.

He continued, “This chapter in my career has given me a lot of energy. I met very nice and very open people, and I really liked it.”

The FIFA World Cup in Qatar will take place from November 20 to December 18, as the Australians open their fifth consecutive final appearance and sixth in their history against France on November 22, before facing Tunisia on November 26 and Denmark on November 30.
