Luke Rockhold retired from the UFC on Saturday night. But let’s say, especially in front of Paolo Costa, he left himself in a cage.
Rockhold, a former UFC middleweight champion looking to return after a three-year hiatus, put up a tough performance against a mighty Costa in a fight that left Rockhold physically exhausted after the first round.
The former champion also took a hard blow to his face, causing him to bleed throughout the match. Then, in the final moments of the last round, after Rockhold took first place, the Californian decided to leave a piece of himself to Costa and the world of MMA.

Comparable to the disturbing nature of Rockhold’s gory performance, Costa’s grin and he seems genuinely amused by the whole thing.

After the match, Rockhold announced his decision to retire, telling Joe Rogan, “I’m old as hell.”

But in reality Rockhold is a legend and has earned the right to go out as he pleases. And if Paolo Costa accepts it, so be it. On the other hand, that’s what makes the UFC great. No other sport gives you that.
