Back to back, arm bent, the other forward pointing to the sky. Usain Bolt’s unmistakable pose, which the retired athlete used to celebrate his victories on the track, will become a trademark.
At least, that’s Bolt’s own intention, as the former athlete filed a patent application for a logo featuring his famous pose with the US Patent and Trademark Office last week.
As Sky News writes, the Jamaican, who won Olympic gold eight times thanks to the unprecedented speeds he was able to achieve, breaking speed records one after another during his athletics career — he still holds the 100 and 200 meter records today —, now wants, in his renovation of the slopes, to take advantage of the pose with which he celebrated and that became famous at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Physics and athletics. This planet was not made for Usain Bolt
Based on the order you submitted, you’ll now want to use it as an image for a variety of products, including sunglasses, jewelry, clothing, bags, sporting goods, restaurants, and bars.
Usain Bolt has filed a trademark application for his victory pose.
The presentation, made on August 17, indicates that @Usain Bolt plan to use the logo in connection with:
1. Sunglasses
2. Jewelry
3. Bags
4. Clothes
5. Sporting Goods
6. Restaurants and sports bars#Usain Bolt pic.twitter.com/dxuUfPJbE1—Josh Gerben (@JoshGerben) August 22, 2022
The document refers to a logo with “the silhouette of a man in a distinctive pose, with one arm bent and pointing towards the head and the other arm raised and pointing upwards”, Sky News also cites.
Bolt retired from athletics after the 2017 World Championships in London and announced the end of his sports career in 2019. The Jamaican champion has made regular and profitable associations with brands for commercial purposes during his career, as Bloomberg recalls, citing his collaborations with Pumbaa or Pepsi, and he also has stakes in various companies, from Wylde sportswear to Champion Shave razor brand.
