Miami Dolphins CEO Jason Jenkins has died at age 47.

Jason Jenkins, senior vice president of communications and public relations for the Miami Dolphins, died unexpectedly on Saturday. 47 years old.

The team announced Jenkins’ departure at halftime for Miami’s third preseason game.

Local media reported that Jenkins died of “a medical emergency.” The cause of his death is unknown.

“Our hearts are broken and we are deeply saddened by the loss of a man we love so much and loved by many,” Tom Garfinkel, Chairman and CEO of Dolphins, said on Twitter. “Jason has served the Dolphins faithfully for 14 years, being a beacon in the community, a pioneer and an advocate for others, and most of all, he treated people with kindness and dignity who left an indelible mark on everyone he met.”

Dolphin owner Stephen Ross described Jenkins as a “good guy”.

“My heart is broken,” Ross said in a statement. “Jason Jenkins is an icon in the Miami community and above all he is a kind and incredible family man. His dedication to our organization is unmatched. He was my friend, but above all he was a generous spirit. Now my heart beats for Elizabeth and her children. The Jenkin family will always be part of the Dolphin family.”

New York Post Report: “Jenkins graduated from Texas Tech in 1997 with a BA in journalism. The Houston-born was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017 and later delivered an acceptance speech. Before the dolphins, the 49ers worked with Texas Southern University and Lehigh University.”

Jenkins has been with Dolphins since 2009 and has served as Senior Vice President of Communications since 2015. Jenkins has a surviving wife and three children.
