In a career spanning more than a quarter of a century, American tennis legend Serena Williams has been as eye-catching as her dazzling yellow ball games.

After wearing at least 400 diamonds in her hair, headband, black dress and sneakers during what is likely the last tournament of her career, AFP takes a look at the top 10 outfits worn by the 23-time world champion.

2002- Cat Suit

When she won her second US Open title in 2002, she wore a lycra bodysuit.

It dominated most of her ground floor press conference, and some reporters felt overwhelmed.

“Great clothes. Does it come with fins, mask and snorkel?

Serena replied, “Of course not. It’s more of a jumpsuit. Not a wetsuit. Wetsuits have long sleeves and are usually longer and thicker.”

She continued, “It’s made from lycra. From afar, it can be assumed that it is made of leather. But it’s Lycra because it sticks to the body. If your figure doesn’t fit, it’s the wrong clothes.” .”

2004- Flowering in Paris

Serena appeared at Roland Garros 2004 wearing a floral two-piece suit designed by Nike.

The letter S stands out on her headband, and the top shirt reveals a button on her belly.

2004- Black leather motorcyclist

Williams had a dilemma about whether she would be allowed to run at the US Open in golf instead of regular tennis shoes.

“You can wear it while playing, I’m sure of it,” she said before picking it up.

She continued, “Looks rebellious when I’m really rebellious. I do different things with black and buttons. I’m just a rebel. So I should start with something like “Serena is rebellious for no reason.”

2005- Green car

This outfit has been described as “neon green”. At the 2005 Australian Open in Melbourne, Serena wore a multicolored outfit with knee-length knee socks.

Her dress made a huge impression: “It is so flowing and so transparent. In short, it didn’t work for me. I liked the way it fluttered up and down.”

2008- white coat

Serena lost the 2008 Wimbledon final to her older sister Venus, but she sent the message when she entered the main court at the start of the tournament in a white coat.

“I don’t think it will keep me out of the rain, but we always hope so,” she explained. “I really like raincoats.”

2014- Tiger Curves

A pink tiger by day and a black tiger by night during the 2014 US Championships. Nike called it “Serena’s cruel dress”.

Russian friend Elena Vesnina told USA Today: “She is trying to show off her curves. This is good. It shows the most beautiful part of your body and hides other parts that you don’t want to show off. Serena looks really good in this outfit. .”

2018- Superhero or Warrior?

One of her most controversial outfits was the black cat jumpsuit at Roland Garros 2018.

“I feel like a warrior inside her, a warrior princess from Wakanda,” she explained, referring to Black Panther, “I always wanted to be a superhero.”

However, the French Tennis Federation treated him with distrust and imposed a ban on him from participating in future competitions. “You have to respect the game and the place,” said federation president Bernard Giudicelli.

2018- Toto in tennis

After Roland Garros was banned, the American appeared at Flushing Meadows in a black tutu dress for ballerinas. The upper part was long-sleeved, while the right arm was sleeveless.

“She’s easy to play with,” she said. “There’s a kind of fluidity in the free hand (from the sleeves). It’s easy to play in the tutu because I’ve tried it before. It was fun.”

2021- Salute Flo Joe

In Melbourne Park, she wore a bright red, pink and black jumpsuit that covered only her right leg.

According to her, this is a tribute to the memory of the late world record holder Florentine Griffiths Jr. in the women’s 100 meters.

“Flo Jo was a great runner, a great athlete as a child. It was great to see her change clothes,” she explained of her compatriot, who passed away at the age of 38.

2021- white tail

She appeared at Wimbledon wearing a white detachable train.

But this outfit didn’t stick in her memory for long, as she was forced to withdraw from her first-round match against Belarusian Alexandra Sasnovich due to a right leg injury after just six games.
