Iranian press reports have confirmed Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz is close to taking charge of Iran’s national team with less than three months left before the start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, in light of doubts over the current Croatian coach’s future. Dragan Scotich.
According to the Iran Varzishi newspaper, the Iranian Football Association is considering appointing Queiroz as the coach of the national team and that the announcement will be made within a week, and the head of the Football Association, Mehdi Taj, has made statements saying that he is seriously considering hiring the Portuguese coach again. .
If an agreement is reached with Queiroz, it will be his second term after leading the Iranian national team in his first term in 8 years, during which he competed with Iran in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
Iran will make its sixth appearance at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 after being placed in Group B, which includes America, England and Wales, as a result of the World Cup draw.
Notably, Queiroz has not currently had any club or team training since his departure from the Egypt national team after failing to lead him to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
