Fernando Santos announces the call for the decisive matches of the Nations League

The Portuguese football coach announces this Wednesday the squad for the last two matches of Group A2 of the League of Nations, against the Czech Republic and Spain, decisive to determine who qualifies for the the last four.

Starting at 12:30, in Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, Fernando Santos will announce the names of those chosen for the double commitment, in a list that must have 26 players, similar to the last call.

Manchester City’s Rúben Dias and Atlético Madrid’s João Félix should return to Fernando Santos’ list, who may also fuel the return of midfielder João Mário and the debut of striker Gonçalo Ramos, both from Benfica.

Portugal will face the Czech Republic in Prague, on September 24, and then close the qualifying phase of the Nations League on September 27, against Spain, in a match that will be played in Braga, already with sold-out tickets.

With four games played in the group, the Portuguese team is in second place, with seven pointsafter beating Switzerland (4-0) and the Czech Republic (2-0) at home, having tied in the visit to Spain (1-1) and having been defeated in the visit to Switzerland (1-0).

At the head is Spain, with eight points, while the Czech Republic is third, with four, and Switzerland, fourth, with three.

The team from Quinas, winner of the first edition of the League of Nations, in 2019, needs to win the group to reach the the last four of the third edition, being the second won by France, in a final with Spain, in 2021.

The four winners of Group A of the Nations League qualify for the final, which includes the semi-finals, the final and the match for third and fourth place. This the last four of the third edition of the test will be held in June 2023.

Also this Wednesday, Rui Jorge will announce the squad for the Portuguese under-21 team for the friendly against Georgia, which will take place in Covilhã, on September 24, at 5:00 p.m.
