Scottish star Andy Murray has expressed his support for former Swiss star Roger Federer to lead the European team in the Laver Cup.

Team Europe lost to Team World 8/13 in the Laver Cup, but after Björn Borg announced that the sixth edition of the Laver Cup, which Vancouver will host next year, would be his last, the position of captain of the European team became vacant.

“I am confident that Roger will continue to play in the championship in a certain role, and perhaps one day he will lead the team,” said Murray.

“He is great and has watched tennis a lot, he loves the game, I think of the previous players who have gone into coaching. I think it’s important to keep up with the times and get to know a lot of players.”

“He said he loves it and I’m sure he’ll be here, maybe work in TV, I know how much he loves Wimbledon, it would be great for tennis if he could stay for a while.” Murray concluded.
