Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville urged Harry Maguire to see a psychiatrist to regain his confidence.

“I went through a similar situation,” Neville said. “I had a terrible European Championship for England in Belgium and the Netherlands. For eight months I was sick of football. I lost my confidence. When I lost my confidence, I went and I saw a psychiatrist to help me in those moments. I went to my doctor at Manchester United. I went to a psychiatrist and asked for help. Sometimes you need outside help.”

He continued: “Harry is going through a difficult moment. I felt it. But he has a good solid character, he has a good family and people around him at Manchester United who will try to help him. This is a difficult period for Harry, there’s no getting around it. But there’s nothing you can do but prove yourself, do your best and don’t give up. At some point he will return to his form, because at times he was a great player for United and for England.

He concluded by saying: “He should go to the World Cup. England did not have a huge group in the center of the defense. Harry did well for England and Gareth Southgate.”
