Former French striker Thierry Henry says the time it takes to make decisions with Video Assistant Referee technology kills the fun of football.

Henry, who won the World Cup with France in 1998, said he had no problem with technology in principle, but was frustrated by the slow pace of reviews compared to other sports.

Henry, 45, believes that VAR technology is the opposite of what was expected of it, as it generates new controversy and does not reduce disputes over arbitral awards.

The assistant coach of the current Belgian national team indicated that he was worried about the var technique, that it was not fast enough and that it was still a matter of someone’s decision, because it is not the VAR that decides, the VAR is only there to draw attention to a specific situation.

He added that the uncertainty surrounding the assisted video technology prevents immediate celebration, so you don’t know if you should jump for joy if you score a goal or wait, which is difficult because he was a player and used to scoring goals.
