Former Germany international Dietmar Hamann said his country’s chances of winning the World Cup in Qatar do not seem great.
“I have big concerns and I don’t know if the German players are good enough to calculate their chances of winning,” Hamann wrote in German magazine Kicker.
Hamann singled out two attacking centers and a defensive midfielder and said, “We don’t have a clear attacker up front and we don’t have a real defensive midfielder and those are the two most important positions.”
Hamann emphasized that no team in Europe “is dependent on the players of one team, as the German team, which depends on the players of Bayern Munich, does, especially with the declining performance of the Bavarian team in the German league, which affects the team.
Hamann urged coach Hans Flick to include Dortmund defender Mats Hummels and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Fritz, who is currently injured, among the 26 players who will compete in the World Cup.
He added that Jamal Musiala should be given more leeway as a playmaker.
