A serious incident in Indonesian football where 174 people were killed and about 180 injured in riots after a football match on the Indonesian island of Java as a result of a stadium being stormed by fans due to the loss of their team.
The riots came after the end of the match, which Arima lost 2-3 to Presbia Surabaya.
Commenting on the tragic incident, the English club Liverpool published a brief statement on their page in which they expressed deep sorrow over the events at the Kangoruhan Stadium in Indonesia.
As for the Spanish club Barcelona, it released a statement: “FC Barcelona is in pain because of the tragic events at the Kanguruhan Stadium in Indonesia, rejecting all acts of violence inside and outside the stadium.
The statement added: “Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
For his part, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation, expressed shock and deep sorrow at the tragic loss of life during the Indonesian Super League match between Arima and Persibaya Surabaya at Kanguruhan Stadium.
