Archaeologists have found the remains of a house more than 800 years old, built during the Aztec Empire, during the modernization of electrical substations in Mexico City.
According to ARTnews, the building area is 4,300 square feet (399.5 square meters). It may be located on the border between the two districts of the capital Tenochtitlan.
Under the floor of the residence, scientists found pottery, remains of babies and other graves. Archaeologists have also discovered channels and a pier that could have been used to load boats.
According to experts, these discoveries describe a unique type of agriculture and its place during the Aztec period, which created floating artificial islands and used them to grow crops.
At this location, archaeologists also found a 59.69-centimeter-tall statue of a man wearing a manzura, apparently throwing something. This statue belongs to the same historical period. And it turns out to experts that the statue was not polished, so they believe that the sculptor did not finish his work, and it is possible that it was hidden during the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs in 1521.
