Regarding the draft protocol, budgeted at 800 thousand euros, for the protection of the dune system between Mindelo and Ribeira de Silvares, according to the vice president of the Portuguese Environment Agency, Pimenta Machado, who aims to solve “the worsening of the state of coastal erosionthe displacement of the primary dune towards the interior and the invasion of the existing walkway in the area and the dune situation and structural instability” resulting from the “large volumes of sand” in the place.
The session also announced that the intervention for the protection and rehabilitation of the Árvore beachfront, in Vila do Conde, “will last until the end of this month.”
In total, the environmental recovery and requalification plan for Vila do Conde foresees an investment of some five million euros in four projects, namely, the protection and rehabilitation of the coastal system in the Atlantic Marginal (1.09 million euros) and the protection and rehabilitation of the adjacent defense areas of the Arvore seafront (1.8 million euros), both already approved for European funding, and the project for the rehabilitation of the Ave river seafront (1.98 million euros) and protection of the dune system between Mindelo and Ribeira de Silvares (0.8 million euros), the latter in the application phase of the Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (POSEUR).
