Executive producer of a romantic comedy series about gay high school students in love, Victor Disney’s decision to move the show to Disney+ after it first aired on Hulu was lauded, saying the family’s streaming service would increase viewership for the show.
In an interview with IndieWire in love, Victor Lead writer and producer Brian Tanen also criticized Florida’s parental rights law for education, calling it “really terrible and violent.”
Disney is said to be developing in love, Victor It’s for Disney+, but due to the show’s open portrayal of gay teenage sexuality, it decided to air it on Hulu, geared towards older audiences.
Starting today, the entire series, including the third and final season, will be available on both streamers.
“We are excited to be with Disney+. It expands our audience in a truly exciting way. Disney+ is a great platform,” Tanen told Indiewire before moving into Florida law.
“I also think this is particularly important in the current political climate, where state governments are enacting some really terrible and cruel laws while trying to show that gay issues are not appropriate for children,” he said.
“Don’t Say Gay Bill in Florida is what I’m talking about specifically, but there are a lot of laws that also target trans people and trans youth, and behind it all there is a desire to overshadow these things rather than what you see.
He said he was very happy that the gay show is now available on a broadcaster that says “about families.”
Walt Disney Co. recently, it was criticized after internal videos were leaked showing employees bragging about promoting LGBTQ programs to children through the studio’s entertainment programs.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek has pledged to continue tackling Florida law, saying the company will work to repeal the law.
