At least three dead in earthquake in southern Iran

At least three people were killed in an earthquake measuring 6 on the Richer scale in southern Iran on Saturday, the Iranian state news agency reported.

IRNA added that 19 people were injured after the earthquake hit Hormozgan province, namely Sayeh Khosh city, where the three bodies were pulled from the rubble.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers, in an area located 100 kilometers southwest of the port of Bandar Abbas, indicated the United States Geological Survey (USGS), which meanwhile revised the magnitude of the earthquake to 5.7.

In November 2021, in the same province, two earthquakes of magnitude 6.4 and 6.3 caused one death.

Located at the junction of several tectonic plates, Iran is an area of ​​strong seismic activity.

In 1990, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake caused 40,000 deaths in the north of the country.
