Tesla Elon Musk faces new charges for racism and factory harassment

Elon Musk’s Tesla has been sued by a group of blacks and former workers at his factory in Fremont, California, who said they suffered racist graffiti, harassment and abuse. Workers say the company and its managers knew about the harassment but did nothing to stop it.

San Francisco Chronicle Tesla reported to Elon Musk that he was being sued again by a group of black and former Fremont Factory workers who were allegedly racist and abusive. Employees say Tesla and company executives knew about the problem but did nothing to prevent it.

The lawsuit lists more than a dozen current and former Tesla employees as plaintiffs. At this time, it is unclear whether any of the employees will sign existing arbitration agreements that could affect whether the case goes to state court.

The lawsuit alleges that plaintiffs “are subjected to racist and offensive comments of racist behavior and discipline by colleagues, supervisors, supervisors, managers and/or human resources personnel every day.”

A similar lawsuit was filed by state regulators earlier this year alleging that Tesla promoted a culture of racial violence at its Fremont factory. In response, the company published a blog post saying racial discrimination was serious, investigated the allegations, and fired any employee who was proven responsible.

Staff say they have faced a range of racist comments, including references to “black” and “black” and the regular use of the word “n” at the facility.

“It’s hard to imagine the culture these hardworking people have to endure in the workplace, where they are faced with racist comments and abusive behavior every day,” said attorney Mike Arias. “It’s still almost unbelievable to hear a series of stories of employees experiencing this level of disgusting and threatening behavior and conversations.”
