Chinese paleontologists have discovered the fossil remains of Hipparion horses in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwestern China.

According to Xinhua, experts from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleontology in a mountainous region of Wenchuan Province, on the border of Kazakhstan, found fossil remains of paleotragus (an extinct animal of the giraffe family), in addition on the lips of Hipparion . ) and tetralophodons (an ancient animal that resembled an elephant). ).
According to Chinese scientists, Wenchuan County is the only place in Xinjiang where the remains of extinct Hipparion horses have been found. Therefore, this province is considered an important link in the study of the evolution of ancient horses in Eurasia.
“This area is of great importance for science and the excavations will be carried out according to the approved plan,” said institute researcher Wang Shizhi.
