The car market falls 5.9% in Portugal until July

The car market in Portugal fell by 5.9% between January and July, compared to the same period in 2021, with 106,879 new cars in circulation, according to data from ACAP – Associação Automóvel de Portugal – published this Monday.

In the seven months of 2022, 106,879 new vehicles were put into circulation, which represented a decrease of 5.9% compared to the period January to July 2021 and a drop of 38% compared to the same period of 2019, “he indicated, in communication , the ACAP.

In July alone, 16,897 cars were registered, an increase of 18.8% compared to the same month in 2021 and a decrease of 22.5% compared to July 2019.

By category, in July, 14,495 new passenger cars were registereda gain of 17.6% compared to the same month of the previous year and a drop of 21.4% compared to 2019.

Between January and July, passenger car registrations fell by 4.1%, compared to the same period in 2021, to 89,944 units. Compared to the same period in 2019, the decrease was 38.8%.

“In the seven months of 2022, 38.2% of new light passenger cars registered were powered by other types of energy, namely electric and hybrid. Specifically, it appears that 9.9% of new light passenger cars were electric”, he detailed.

On the other hand, in July there was a total of 1,874 light goods vehicles registeredan increase of 15.5% compared to the same month of 2021 and a decrease of 40.3% compared to July 2019.

In the first seven months of the year, this market accounted for 13,604 units, 19.7% less compared to the same period in 2021 and a drop of 38.6% compared to the period from January to July 2019.

The heavy vehicle market, which includes passenger cars and goods, almost doubled (92.7%) in July compared to the same month of the previous year, up to 528 units. Compared to 2019, it more than doubled (143.3%).

Considering the period from January to July, there were 3,331 registrations in this category, 17.2% more than in the same period of the previous year and an increase of 1.1% compared to the same period in 2019.
