The General Directorate of Health recommended this Wednesday the adoption of additional measures of protection against heatsuch as the increase in water intake, since the forecasts point to a gradual increase in temperature in the coming days.
In a note published on the website, the DGS recalls that the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) foresees a gradual increase in temperatures in the coming days and advises the looking for fresh and airy environments, or with air conditioning.

It also recommends choosing the less hot hours to travel by car and ask “special attention” to the most vulnerable groups to the heat, such as children, the elderly, the chronically ill, pregnant women, people with reduced mobility, workers active abroad, practitioners of physical activity and isolated people.
According to the health authority, those who are chronically ill or subject to medication and/or specific diets “must follow the recommendations of the attending physician or the contact center of the SNS 24: 808 24 24 24”. “Children under six months should not be exposed to direct or indirect sunlight,” he warns.
The IPMA issued a yellow alert (the least serious) for heat, starting Friday, in the districts of Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Santarém, Setúbal, Portalegre, Évora and Beja.
This morning, after a meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs to evaluate the weather forecasts for the coming days, the president of the IPMA, Jorge Miguel Miranda, warned that the country will experience a third heat wave starting on the 20th.
