Lamborghini’s “vitaminized” SUV is already known. The Italian manufacturer presented in Pebble Beach, USA, where the Monterey Car Week takes place, the Urus Performante, the fastest version of its most familiar model, but without giving up the emotion behind the wheel. The new version of Urus is lighter, more powerful and more focused on fun and efficiencyeven having a Rally driving mode so that the SUV behaves like a rally car when driving on dirt roads.
The Urus Performante arrived at Pebble Beach already wearing the title of the series SUV record holder on the Pikes Peak Ramp, reaching the finish line (at an altitude of 4,302 meters) in 10 minutes and 32.064 seconds, after ascending 19.9 km. With this new mark, Urus took 17 seconds off the best time, until then in possession of the Bentley Bentayga.

The new Urus Performante maintains the 4.0 V8 biturbo engine, but boosts power from the original 650 hp to a more exciting 666 hp. At the same time, the weight (2,272 kg) of the Italian SUV has been reduced by 47 kg, giving the model a most favorable power/weight ratiobenefiting the maximum speed and, above all, the accelerations.
The Performing Urus Announces 306km/ha kilometer per hour more than the standard version, with the 0 to 100 km/h now takes 3.3 seconds, much better than the 3.6 seconds that were needed so far. Stephan Winkelmann, general director of the brand, defines the Urus Performante as a “super SUV, which maintains a luxurious versatility and continues to provide an exciting driving experience”, recalling that this Lamborghini model “set a new standard at its launch”, but now it “raises the bar even higher” with the Performante version.
Weight reduction was achieved at the expense of adopting carbon fiber instead of traditional fiber. Bumpers, engine hood and various body beautification applications account for a large part of the 47kg weight gain.
But the Performante goes further and, in a bid to ensure greater efficiency, Lamborghini lowered the Urus’s ground clearance, mounting new springs that reduce ground clearance by 20mm. The center of gravity is lowered in the same proportion, with advantages for handling. Simultaneously, the new 22” diameter tires (23” optional) can also widen the tracks by 16mm, which also helps with handling, especially when cornering. And with 666 hp under the right foot, all help is little.
The price of the new Urus Performante is €218,487, before taxesthat in countries like ours they penalize (a lot) the cylinder capacity and CO emissionstwotwo arguments that fiscally do not favor the Italian SUV, but that should not matter much to the brand’s customers either.
