According to the latest public notice issued by the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV), made available by the Confederação dos Agricultores de Portugal (CAP), tongue virus serotype 4 blue is affecting Castelo Branco (all municipalities), Coimbra (Arganil, Oliveira do Hospital and Tábua), Guarda (Gouveia, Fornos de Algodres, Seia), Viseu (Carregal do Sal, Castro Daire, Seia, Nelas, Tondela and Viseu ) and Santarém (all).
In turn, in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, all the municipalities of the district of Setúbal are affected.
in Alentejo, all districts and counties are covered.
“The geographical area affected by serotypes one and four of the bluetongue virus is made up of all the municipalities of the Directorate of Food and Veterinary Services of the Algarve Region,” reads the note released by the confederation.
In these areas, therefore, it is mandatory to vaccinate adult breeding sheep and juveniles intended for reproduction, from three months of age.
According to CAP, the vaccine is provided to livestock producer organizationsand the DGAV also advises the vaccination of other animals of susceptible species, such as cattle.
The DGAV is a central service of the direct administration of the State, with administrative autonomy.
