Lesson Not Learned: City of Connecticut Orders *Read More* About Electric Vehicles After Bus Destroyed in Battery Fire

City of Westport, Connecticut officials say the massive battery fire that destroyed a CTtransit electric bus has not stopped the city from continuing its efforts to expand its fleet of electric vehicles.

CT Insider reports that the city of Westport in Connecticut has the most electric vehicles per capita with 890 electric vehicles registered in the city by the end of 2021. The CTtransit electric bus is still in the pipeline despite the fire.

In July, Breitbart News reported that one of the government’s electric buses had become one hell of a blast, just a day after authorities pushed for the Connecticut Clean Air Act to be passed. A CTtransit bus caught fire in the Hamden parking lot early Saturday morning, sending two workers and a firefighter to the hospital.

“Lithium-ion battery fires are difficult to extinguish because of a thermal chemical process that produces a lot of heat and continues to burn,” Hamden Fire Department officials said. Two transport workers exposed to smoke were hospitalized as a precaution, while a firefighter was hospitalized with heatstroke.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but some Republicans are calling for a moratorium on switching buses from diesel engines to electric ones. His first fiancee, Jennifer Tooker, commented: “We continue to prioritize the electrification of our urban fleet where it makes sense.”

The electric bus fleet was replaced by conventional and reliable diesel buses, and the cause of the battery fire was investigated.

According to information officer Charles Sampson, the Westport Police Department currently has five hybrid vehicles and two Tesla electric vehicles in its fleet. The department also plans to add the 2022 Tesla to its patrol. “Electric vehicles are likely to become the norm for the majority of our fleet in the near future,” Sampson said.
