Naval News has announced that the US military has begun building a new generation of frigates for the Navy.
“Fincantieri Marinette Marine, a US shipbuilder affiliated with Italian Fincantieri, has begun production of Constellation-class military frigates for the US Army. Production began on August 31,” said a post on the site.
The website states that the Constellation frigates will be modified versions of the Italian FREMM frigates, each ship will be 151m long, 19.7m wide and have a displacement equal to 7408 tons.
The new ships can carry a crew of 200, travel at 26 knots and travel 6,000 nautical miles per mission, with 12.7mm machine guns, RIM-116 air defense missiles and anti-maritime missiles.
