Smartwatches do more than just tell the time and offer an amazing array of health features, from step counting to electrocardiograms.
However, the latest Apple device will now also tell users the best time to get pregnant.
The tech giant has announced that it will make family planning “easy and convenient” with the new Apple Watch 8’s egg-laying feature.
The £419 watch uses two sensors to check a woman’s pulse temperature every five seconds throughout the night and records basal body temperature – the lowest level achieved at rest.
A slight rise of as little as 0.1 degrees can be a sign of ovulation. Experts believe that watching it every day can help predict when a woman is likely to get pregnant. The most fertile period is the days before ovulation, as well as the day of ovulation and the day after.
Temperature sensing will also help women track their menstrual cycles more accurately, as users will receive a notification when their recorded cycles change, which could be a sign of an underlying condition.
“The menstrual cycle is an important sign of health and is considered important by many doctors,” says Apple. “Apple Watch Series 8 has innovative new temperature detection features that give women more insight.”
The new watch will be available from September 16.
