The Municipality of Oliveira do Hospital announced this Friday that it will invest, with the acquisition of three electric busesnear 700 thousand euros in electric mobility, “with a view to promoting the use of clean energy”.
According to the mayor of Oliveira do Hospital, José Francisco Rolo, this is the “largest investment ever made in electric mobility” in the municipality and is “aligned with environmental concerns and energy efficiency goals, also going to find the path that Western countries, and particularly the European Union, have been tracking.”
Oliveira do Hospital is a municipality that has stood out in recent years for its good sustainable development practices through the implementation of measures, actions and policies at the municipal level, being recognized as a ‘Sustainable Green Municipality’, through the concession of the ECOXXI award from the Blue Flag Association of Europe”, he highlighted.
In a statement sent to the Lusa agency, this municipality in the district of Coimbra reported that the investment, which is around 700,000 euros, will materialize with the acquisition of a 27-seater coach and two minibuses with capacity for more than 14 seats.
The three electric vehicles are mainly intended for school transport carried out by the Municipality of Oliveira do Hospital.
In this way, it allows the renewal of its fleet of cars, thus replacing other vehicles powered by fossil fuels from the municipal vehicle fleet, whose wear and/or age will not allow them, in the medium term, to ensure the functions for which they are designed. destined, as is the case of the transport of children”, he justified.
New acquisitions arrive reinforce “the commitment to green mobility, following the environmental policies that the Municipality has developed to achieve the objectives of sustainable development, also contributing to the compliance with national and international goalsthat is, those related to climate change, through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the field of transport”.
The acquisition of these three buses has financing obtained under POSEUR – Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources — corresponding to “close to 100% of the eligible amount”.
It also includes the purchase and installation of other necessary components, such as charging stations“.
