Users of the Meta-owned Instagram app have reported an annoying issue that mysteriously causes Stories to unmute.
You may have turned off the sound, but as soon as you move on to the next story, the noise starts to appear, Digital Trends reports.
This is especially frustrating and embarrassing if you are in a quiet environment like a desk and suddenly your phone rings and you end up making a fuss and attracting unwanted attention from others.
Instagram users have been completely unhappy for the past two days. They took to Twitter and other social platforms to report an issue where the Stories feature was not working properly and audio was playing automatically on devices without user permission.
Normally, the sound is muted when viewing stories and users have to tap the speaker icon to increase the volume. The Stories feature does not turn on sound by default in most apps.
One user said on Twitter, “Please tell me Instagram Stories is an auto-beeping bug and there is no way to mute the sound badly.” said.
Another user commented, “Please let me mute the stories again. It’s really frustrating and encouraging.”
“I don’t watch stories with audio, so every time I try to watch a story, it’s shocking and ridiculous,” said another user.
Most annoyingly, there doesn’t seem to be a suitable solution for this at the moment. The only solution is to manually turn down your phone’s volume.
You can do this by pressing the low volume button until it disappears completely.
And this seems to be the only solution until Instagram releases an update to its app.
