The Detroit Auto Show is, until September 25, the center of the automotive industry, with an emphasis on everything that involves mobility systems and devices. One of the vehicles that attracted the most attention was the Aerwins XTurismo, a kind of flying motorcycle capable of transporting one person, the driver. But priced at $777,000, the equivalent of roughly three Ferrari Romas.
XTurismo has a gasoline hybrid engine, in which the combustion component is a Kawazaki motorcycle engine, without Aerwins having advanced more features of this propellant. The flying vehicle with six rotors It weighs 299 kg and announces a range of 40 minutes, reaching 100 km/h.. Values that are not impressive for this class of vehicle, even when compared to 100% electric models.
Impressive is the price of $777,000 demanded for this particular version, a Limited Edition. But Aerwins CEO Shuhei Komatsu is sure the high value – almost prohibitive – is justified by the first units, for more produced even in small quantities. Entry into mass production will reduce costs, with these hovering around $50,000 in 2025, when Aerwins launches a hover bike slightly smaller.
At the moment, potential customers can only enjoy the images of XTurismo, while the different countries decide how to proceed with this class of vehicles. In Japan, for example, they are not considered flying devices, so they do not need a special license to be piloted, which facilitates adoption.
