9to5Mac reports that while Netflix lost 1.2 million subscribers in the first two quarters of 2022, the company hopes to add one million new users to the platform with the new ad-supported tier. But a recent survey shows that one in four Netflix users plans to cancel their subscription this year.
Reviews.org surveyed 1,000 US streaming customers to determine their streaming habits in 2022 and found that the average American subscribes to four different streaming platforms. Netflix remains the most popular, with nearly 4 out of 5 (77%) Americans surveyed currently subscribing to the platform. 70% also said they use Netflix more than any other streaming service; this is a great advantage; HBO Max comes in second, with only 9.91% of respondents calling it their best service.
25% of all Netflix subscribers surveyed said they plan to cancel their subscription. Two-thirds of those planning to leave said the streaming giant’s rising costs were a reason.
Netflix appears to have the highest average plan cost of the eight most popular streaming services in the US. Other reasons for the cancellation include that nearly a third of respondents said they were outside of the series they watched on the platform, and 30 percent said they used other streaming services. About 20 percent of those planning to cut their services say that general inflation and rising costs of daily living are also contributing factors.
