The diamond brand is committed to rescuing the most emblematic models of the past and taking advantage of the “weight” of the old Renault 5 and the mythical 4L to have more chances of success by reinforcing its 100% electric range. But while the R5, scheduled for 2025, will maintain the forms of the hatchback, the return of the Renault 4 yields to the trend of the moment. That is, it will be manufactured as an SUV or crossover. As well as being commercially strategic, this option makes sense, as 4L has gained a legion of fans due to its ability to reach (almost) everywhere.
Already in his sixties (production began in 1961), The Renault 4, which will be exhibited on October 17 at the Paris Motor Show, is a tribute to Renault’s best-selling model to date., 30 years after production ended. With more than 8 million units Manufactured until 1992, this icon of the past will be honored with a show car. And judging by the teaser launched by Renault, the French brand intends “provoke” public reactionpreparing the arrival of the definitive version.
The published images suggest an adventurous character model, with out of the way and generous suspension travel, plus a roof rack. In the rear window there is what looks like a bicycle rack and the characteristic trapezoidal shape that delimits the last glass on the side is not missing. It remains to be seen to appreciate with more light and detail what these dark photos want to hideto see to what extent the design team led by Gilles Vidal managed to give a modern touch to the disappeared Renault 4 that marked three decades and conquered, in its own right, a place in history.
