Funchal Captaincy extends notice of maritime disturbances until Monday

The Funchal port captaincy extended the notice of strong marine unrest for the Madeira coast issued on Saturday until early Sunday morning at 06:00 this Monday.

The information from the regional maritime authority is based on the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) on the general situation of the weather (wind and sea) for the Madeira archipelago.

The captaincy indicates that the wind changed from very strong to strong, noting that it will blow from the southwest “moderate to cool, gradually increasing to moderate to strong, temporarily from strong to very strong in the late afternoon, and turning NW during the night” .

As for the waves, he says that the waves from the northwest will be between four and five meters on the north coast, moving to the west quadrant. In the southern part they will increase from two meters to 4.5 meters

The captaincy says that “good to moderate visibility is expected, becoming moderate to weak.”

Due to these weather conditions, this regional authority “recommends shipowners and owners to take the necessary precautions to guarantee their safety.”

The IPMA has placed the mountainous regions and the southern coast of Madeira under a yellow alert for precipitation, which increases to orange from 12:00 p.m. today until 00:00 a.m. on Monday.

The yellow notice is in force on the north coast and on the island of Porto Santo until 9:00 a.m. this Monday.
