All the islands of the Azores under yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) placed the nine islands of the Azores on yellow alert on Monday due to forecasts of rainfall, sometimes intense, and electrical storms, a situation that is expected to last until Tuesday.

According to the IPMA, the precipitations, sometimes intense, which can be accompanied by electrical storms, should begin to be felt on the islands of the western group (Flores and Corvo), whose yellow warning is already activestaying until 12:00 on Tuesday.

For those two islands, the IPMA also issued a yellow advisory due to wind forecasts (from the north) between 15:00 on Tuesday and 00:00 on Wednesday.

The islands of the central group (Terceira, Pico, São Jorge, Graciosa and Faial) are under yellow alert between 12:00 on Monday and 12:00 on Tuesday, due to heavy rains and electrical storms.

For the eastern group (São Miguel and Santa Maria), the yellow warning, due to occasional rains and thunderstorms, will be in effect between 00:00 and 15:00 on Tuesday.

The yellow notice corresponds to a “risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation”.
