Floods and landslides in the Philippines killed 49 people during the Christmas holidays, reported this Sunday the NDRRMC – National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center for the prevention of natural disasters.
The published report indicates that 20 people are still missing in the Philippines, while some 500,000 citizens were affected by bad weather in more than 30 provinces.
At least 51,400 were displaced by floods and landslides, to shelter centers or houses of relatives or friends.
Of those 49 deaths, 19 occurred in the Misamis Occidental province of the southern Philippines, where heavy rains triggered flooding and mudslides.
Other southern provinces of the country reported 17 deaths, while 13 deaths were recorded in the eastern and western provinces.
The damage caused to agriculture and infrastructure is estimated at about 25 million dollars (23.3 million euros), according to the NDRRMC.
