Peugeot launches five new trams by 2025 (with news)

In the next two years, Peugeot will launch five new trams on the market, two of which it has already presented, the e-308 and the e-308 SW van. This couple will be joined later by the e-408 crossover and the two e-3008 and e-5008 SUVs. But if some will benefit from the improvements in mechanical efficiency, others will be able to launch the first specific platform for vehicles with this technology, with advantages in weight, interior space, efficiency and costs.

Peugeot E-Lion Day allowed the brand to reveal its strategy for the coming years, which includes the market launch of the e-308 and e-308 SW. The novelties of the 308 saloon and van include the latest generation mechanicswhich mounts a more efficient and powerful electric motor, providing 156 hp instead of the previous 136.

Powering the drive unit is a slightly bigger battery, with a gross power of 54 kWh (instead of the previous 50 kWh) and a useful availability of 50.8 kWh (instead of 46 kWh). More efficient engines and a bigger battery explain why the e-308 and e-308 SW can travel 400 km between visits to the charging station, according to the WLTP method. This comfortably exceeds the range advertised for the e-208 and e-2008, which are 362 km and 336 km, respectively.

In addition to these two electric vehicles, Peugeot is preparing three more battery-powered models, the first of which will be the e-408, the crossover based (like the e-308) on versions with combustion engines, sharing the same chassis, although adapted to the electric motor and the package of batteries The power of the first and the capacity of the second should be similar to those used by the e-308.

But the biggest news among Peugeot electric cars will come from the SUV e-3008 and e-5008. This is because these will be the first models from the house to use specific platforms for trams, in order to optimize the potential of this technology, maximizing the interior space with respect to the total length, reducing the weight and accommodating the battery cells in a more homogeneous way than the current “H” ones, in which it is more difficult to guarantee that all cells are at the same temperature. The proof is that they allow a greater capacity of accumulators to be accommodated in vehicles of relatively compact dimensions, which allows them to advertise range up to 700 km and three types of motors, including for the first time in the brand a version with two motors, one on each axis, to guarantee all-wheel drive.

The platform that serves trams 3008 and 5008 is the new STLA Medium, whose entry into production was considerably anticipated, since it was planned for 2024 or 2025 and now promises to enter the market in the second half of 2023, first appearing on the e-3008. Shortly after, it will be the turn of the e-5008, without the manufacturer specifying if it will reach customers in 2023 or just in 2024.
