Russian scientists and experts have developed a complex program for the Caspian seal, the only mammal that lives in this sea and has no connection to the global ocean.
A spokesperson for the press service of Dagestan State University said that the program aims to reduce the number of seals in the region.
In the framework of the program called “Compass”, experts will analyze the decline in the number of these marine animals, which are included in the International Red Book of Rare Animals, in different regions of the Caspian Sea.
In addition, a group of volunteers was formed to investigate the waters of the Caspian Sea coast in Dagestan.
As for Dagestan State University, the International Seal Research and Rehabilitation Center will be opened there. Wounded and sick animals are brought to him. The President of the Compass Foundation Tatyana Kovalyova and the University Rector signed a cooperation agreement on this issue.
According to a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences d. The coast of Dagestan, Vichlav Rognov, is still witnessing the discovery of seal carcasses thrown into the sea.
