Tesla hits a new quarterly sales record with 422,000 units

After having increased its sales volume from 938,000 units in 2021 to 1.3 million in 2022, Tesla remains in line with the announced goal, which is to sell 1.8 million new vehicles in 2023. A growth of 38% , already after the 40% increase registered from 2021 to 2022.

Wall Street analysts predicted global sales volume of 420,000 units between January and March this year, but Tesla beat expectations by pegging the number of vehicles sold at 422,875. In the process, the construction company registered 38% more than the units sold in the same period of the previous year (305,407) and 4% more than the 405,278 sold in the 4th quarter of 2022, which until now represented a record for the brand . which has now been struck.

Tesla increases 2022 sales by 40% and production by 47%

Of the 422,000 vehicles sold, Model 3 and Model Y registered the best values, reaching a total of 412,180 units, with Model S and X being 10,695 models, values that constitute the highest for the manufacturer in terms of 3 and Y. , but not with respect to the S and X. 12 months ago, Tesla placed only 295,324 Model 3 and Y on the market, but a total of 14,724 Model S and X, for the last quarter of 2022 having sold 17,147 units of its high-end models .

From a production standpoint, Tesla built 440,808 vehicles in the first three months of 2023, which is a new record. Among those, 421,371 were 3 and Y, so that the S and X contribute 19,437 units. Tesla explains the exaggerated difference of 81.7%, between the units produced and sold, by the fact that all Model S and X are manufactured in Fremont and from there are exported to all markets, which implies that a considerable amount of units, given the small volume of vehicles involved, is sometimes shifted to export markets.

With the sales and production figures reached in the first quarter of 2023, Tesla is advancing towards the goals announced for the current year, in which it intends to sell 1.8 million units. This at a time when the factories in Berlin and Texas have not yet reached cruising speed, continuing to increase the pace of production. Still, even at the current rate, Tesla is already aiming for 1.7 million units sold by 2023, and a slightly higher production value, so the target seems within reach for the manufacturer.
