The driver of a school bus, full of children, began the trip at Carter Middle School, in Warren, on the outskirts of Detroit, USA, but about two kilometers later she was already communicating with the company’s headquarters, informing that he didn’t feel well. , that she was dizzy and was going to pull over to the side. But, according to the video broadcast by the television channel 4News, could not complete the maneuvercontinuing the bus circulating uncontrollably at low speed, towards the opposite lane.
When everything indicated that a serious accident was imminentcapable of endangering everyone on board, Lo and behold, 13-year-old Dillon Reeves was instantly transformed from kid to hero. Noticing the driver’s difficulties, he grabbed the steering wheel, pulling back into his lane, while reaching out to hit the brake pedal. Not deeply, desperately, but gently, to prevent the other children from getting scared even more (the screams that are heard confirm the panic), or being thrown forward by a stronger deceleration. And she still had the presence of mind to ask a colleague with a cell phone to call 911 (our 112) for medical assistance.
The event occurred on April 26, around 3:00 p.m., but days later the young Reeves had already risen to the status of a local hero, when he saved his companions and the driver from a dangerous situation. During the ceremony, meant to highlight the courage and maturity shown, little Dillon’s father explained the ease with which the boy controlled the bus: “Since I was 4 years old, he has been driving on my lap on country roads and in our driveway.” This explains why, after stopping the bus, Dillon put the heavy vehicle in “P”.
