Police caught two drifting BMWs and… crushed them

Despite the numerous official speed races, rallies, drifts and offroad races that are organized during the 12 months of the year, all of them with maximum security, there are drivers who still prefer public roads to demonstrate their expertise. those who prefer the term irresponsibility – and show off the power of their cars, even if they put the safety of other motorists and pedestrians at risk. and of course not track days organized at racetracks seem to be enough, the French police have been strengthened with legislation that speeds up the punishment of offenders.

For the French, driving skills can and should be punished in an exemplary manner. And also visible, to deter would-be drift kings, discipline in which circuits are covered in controlled skidding, where the fastest and most crossed car wins. And for the avoidance of doubt, the French authorities showed off their new anti-drift weapon on social media: a gigantic press that transforms even the most exuberant sports car into a kind of pancake on wheels.

The last victims of the police press – probably the closest junkyard to where the vehicle was impounded – It was about two BMW 3 Series of the E36 generation, which were caught doing some skills in the small town of Tourville-la-Rivière, in northern France. The drivers confirmed to the local press that they were captured, that the vehicles were seized and then destroyed without the owners having a chance to go to court to recover them.

In order for the message to reach the other “driving aces” quickly, the police posted images of the destruction of the two BMWs on Twitter, with the comment “the courts ordered the destruction of the vehicles”. To this, the owner of the yellow BMW (Alann Abt) responded, through Instagram, that after having made drift in an industrial area with no traffic, he saw his impounded car in front of his house. The vehicle would then be crushed, without even allowing the owner to remove his belongings from inside the BMW.

The law that supports this type of police action was created in 2018, allowing the authority to impose fines of up to €75,000 and order up to three years in prison. Drivers can also have their driving license suspended and their vehicle impounded. Alann Abt turned to fundraising to hire a lawyer and prepare a case against the police, already scheduled for January, but the odds of success are not in their favor, since the 1400% increase in this type of crime it has led the justice system to further tighten controls and sanctions.
