Chamber of Campo Maior allocates support of 85 thousand euros to victims of floods

The Chamber of Campo Maior, in the district of Portalegre, allocated an aid of 85 thousand euros to support those affected by the floods which took place in December, through a protocol signed with the Santa Casa da Misericordia.

In a statement sent this Friday to the Lusa agency, the municipality explains that the collaboration protocol with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Campo Maior (SCCMM) serves to make the municipal financial support operational “intended to restore the minimum conditions of habitability” in the affected houses.

“The protocol provides municipal financial support with a total endowment of 85 thousand euros and establishes the terms and conditions of the collaboration between the City Council and the SCMCM, with the aim of granting municipal economic aid to the residents of Campo Maior to cover the expenses, or part of them, related to the replacement of damaged personal property and the recovery of habitability conditions in the affected homes”, the document reads.

On December 29, the president of the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Alentejo (CIMAA), Hugo Hilário, told Lusa that the bad weather that hit the Portalegre district caused damage to the about 47 million euros.

The president of CIMAA, who also chairs the Ponte de Sor City Council, stressed that the calculated damage values ​​only refer to housing areas, economic activities, facilities and municipal infrastructure.

“Does not include those who were the damages for liability of the agricultural sectorwhich will have a specific line [de apoio] of the Ministry of Agriculture”, nor the damage suffered by the infrastructure of Portugal, specifically the national highways, he warned.
