New Mini Countryman (combustion or electric) built on the basis of the BMW X1

It may not seem like it, but the new Mini Countryman fits like a glove on the platform that, up to now, BMW has already used in its X1 and iX1. Yes, because the new SUV from the British brand will be offered with a combustion engine, but also with one or two electric motors, powered by a battery.

The new platform allows the Countryman grow 13cm compared to its predecessor (4,429 m in total), while the height gains 6 cmwhich ensures a more spacious cabin. And if the aesthetic is more modern, it fully respects the stylistic basis of the British SUV, only now interpreted in a more harmonious way to optimize aerodynamics. Hence a Cx of 0.26, instead of 0.31 for the generation to be replaced.

Besides the more space in the cabinwhere the width at shoulder height increases by 3 cm in front and 2.5 cm in back, the trunk also takes a leap in the right direction, reaching 460 liters, that is, 55 more than in the previous generation. With the folding of the second row of seats, which can be adjusted longitudinally by 13 cm, to favor space for legs or luggage, the trunk can grow up to 1,450 liters.

In addition to conventional engines, gasoline or diesel, Mini proposes two electric versions, although mounted on a platform that was born for combustion models. The single-engine, front-wheel drive Countryman, called E, uses a 204 PS and 250 Nm engine, powered by a battery with a usable capacity of 64.7 kWh, which allows it to advertise 462 km of range on WLTP. (still estimated value), in addition to 170 km/h top speed and 8.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.

The Countryman SE ALL4 will be the most powerful in the range, mounting two electric motors to take advantage of all-wheel drive. The total power is 313 hp and 494 Nm., which reduces the time needed to go from 0 to 100 km/h to 5.6 seconds, while the speed limit goes up to 180 km/h. The battery installed in this version maintains its capacity (64.7 kWh) and, curiously, despite mounting an additional motor, which translates into more weight and more power, Claims the same consumption and autonomy. (462 km, value still subject to confirmation).

Mini continues to bet on being 100% electric in 2030, so it is natural that the Countryman versions that aroused the most interest at the Munich Motor Show were precisely the E and the SE. See below the presentation of the new Countryman, as well as the new Mini Cooper:
