The Governments of Cape Verde and the autonomous regions of Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands meet to discuss sustainable tourism, technological innovation, energy transition, transport and circular economy.
The governments of Macaronesia (Cape Verde and the autonomous regions of the Azores, Madeira (Portugal) and the Canary Islands (Spain) meet this Thursday in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, for their third summit.
The common agenda in strategic sectors should be reflected in a final joint declaration.
“Among the priority areas of collaboration are the sustainable tourism, technological innovation, energy transition, transport and promotion of a circular economy“, announced the Government of Cape Verde.
At the end of the summit “a final declaration of the Macaronesian governments will be adopted,” he added.
The Third Macaronesia Summit was preceded by a high-level meeting held on the island of Sal, Cape Verde, in September.
At the time, the Cape Verdean Government proposed the creation of “a European grouping of territorial cohesion in Macaronesia”, to “strengthen the special association with the European Union (EU)”, following the positive evaluation of the European cooperation program INTERREG MAC.
In addition to Cape Verde and the Portuguese and Spanish autonomous regions, the program includes Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Mauritania, Senegal and Sao Tome and Principe.
At the same time, The “Macaronesia of Knowledge” project was announceda civil society initiative that will be presented on the sidelines of the summit.
The Cape Verde delegation will be headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, José Filomeno Monteiro, together with the presidents of the regional governments of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, and the vice president of the Azores. , Artur Manuel Leal, as well as a representative of the Spanish Government.
