Bad weather. Civil Protection alerts the population of rain and strong winds in the coming days

With the country under yellow alert due to the forecast of heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasionally hail, strong winds and sea disturbances, Civil Protection issued an alert to the population with preventive measures.

In a statement, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority warned that the bad weather that will hit mainland Portugal from the early hours of this Friday could cause flooding in urban areas, floods and landslides. The contamination of drinking water sources and the dragging of loose objects onto the roads are also some of the expected effects.

“The National Authority for Emergencies and Civil Protection (ANEPC) remembers that the Any impact of these effects can be minimized, especially by adopting appropriate behaviors, For this reason, and particularly in historically more vulnerable areas, it is recommended to adopt the main preventive measures for these situations,” the statement reads.

Among the recommended prevention measures are unblocking stormwater drainage systems, not crossing flooded areas, not carrying out activities related to the sea and using caution when driving near riverside areas and adopting defensive driving.

This Friday, the IPMA placed the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Beja, Castelo Branco and Coimbra on yellow alert between 12:00 and 9:00 p.m. and between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m.: midnight on Saturday.
