The Aldeia de Lobos community festival takes place between July 12 and 13, in Fafião, Montalegre, and celebrates this protected species with concerts in the old fojo, exhibitions in the animal yards and on the streets and walks, it was announced this Wednesday.
In the town where the wolf was formerly taken to die, a festival aimed at its preservation was born in 2018.
The Vezeira Association stated, in a statement, that “gone are the times when this species, now threatened, was an enemy of the population of Fafião”, a town in the parish of Cabril, located in the heart of Peneda. -Gerês National Park (PNPG), in an area of the Vila Real district.
The community festival has as its central protagonist the Iberian wolf and its relationship with the local community, but also aims to preserve local traditions, such as the vezeira, which translates into grazing cattle or goats in shifts through the mountains.
According to the organization, during the two days, the tracks where the animals spend the night open their doors to receive exhibitions and art installations including textiles, fine art, ceramics written by several members of the Acendalha Association.
Other artistic and traditional interventions will be spread throughout the streets of the town, including an exhibition of backlit photographs by Carlos Pontes about the Iberian wolf.
Exhibitions and installations will also feature Dora Vieira (fine arts), Vanessa Silva (painting), Carolina Garfo (ceramics), Mariya Nesvyetaylo (painting) and Celestino André (sculpture and painting).
An exhibition by the Association for the Conservation of the Habitat of the Iberian Wolf (ACHLI) will be inaugurated at the Barroso Ecomuseum, which shows the habitat of the Iberian wolf, and another on the latest wolf censuses, where the entity involved is the Wolf Group.
The Dalmatic restoration group will also hold a biographical exhibition of the saints that make up the interior of the town hermitage.
The festival also features a lot of music.from the streets to the concerts that will take place on the stage installed in Fojo do Lobo, an old wolf trap.
Rosa Mimosa y Sus Mariposas, SAL, Gaiteiros de Pitões, Azeituna, Nahuel Coletivo, Galandum Galandaina, Zancudo Berraco, Epirex, DJ Diana Oliveira, Charanga BCB, That German Guy, Mestre Barachinha with Maracatu Estrela de Tracunhaem will perform at Fafião, Esoteric. and Charange El Tatoo.
There will also be a market for the town’s endogenous agricultural products, crafts for sale, walks along ancestral trails and the Galician fire will be recreated by Ulisses Pereira.
Visitors will also be able to participate in video sessions accompanied by the project creator. LifeFrancisco Álvares, or in the gathering “From the garrón to extensive grazing”.
This year’s edition has the collaboration of several entities linked to the protection of the species and related parties in a collaboration project, LIFE Wild Wolfas well as the Loboibérico.pt platform, created to improve society’s knowledge about the Iberian wolf.
