Livestock and dairy producers ask for support due to storm damage Kirk

Fenalac – National Federation of Milk Producers Cooperatives and Fenapecuária – National Federation of Livestock Producers Cooperatives called for an exceptional measure of support for animal feed, due to the damage caused by Storm Kirk.

In a statement, the Federations recalled that the storm “caused serious damage to the agricultural sector, especially in the North and Center regions”, indicating that “after a first survey carried out with several local organizations” it was found that “in some municipalities there were significant losses in the cultivation of corn, both silage and grain, it is estimated that several thousand hectares of this crop were affected.” . .”

Thus, “knowing that the corn harvest for silage is the main source of nutrition for various animal productions, both Federations are concerned not only about the large losses suffered, but also about the future costs to feed livestock“, reads the same note.

According to the organizations, “it is therefore essential to create an exceptional support measure for animal feed” so that “losses can be minimized” and “price increases for consumers” can be avoided.

Fernando Cardoso, general secretary of Fenalac, stated, cited in the statement, that “Compensation for recent damage to corn crops is essential to avoid the skyrocketing costs of animal feed and, consequently, guarantee the sustainability of production.”

Therefore, the federations call on the Government and the Northern and Central Regional Development Coordination Committees to adopt “quick measures to compensate for the high losses suffered“.
