Associations launch portal to report cases of indiscipline in schools

The School Coexistence Observatory, an initiative of associations of teachers, directors and parents, will launch a portal on Saturday to receive reports of cases of violence and indiscipline in schools.

The portal will be launched within the scope of the XI National Convention of the National Federation of Education (FNE), the National Confederation of Parents’ Associations (Confap) and the National Association of Directors of Groups and Public Schools (ANDAEP), responsible of the initiative in collaboration with the Association for Training and Research in Education and Work (AFIET).

Available at convivenciaescolar.pt, The portal will allow sharing contributions and good practices in the context of preventing indiscipline, but also the presentation of complaints.

The objective, explained to Lusa the general secretary of the FNE, Pedro Barreiros, is know the situations that occur in schools and, when possible, case tracking, guaranteeing the anonymity of complainants whenever they express this wish.

The information collected will then be analyzed by the institutions that make up the School Coexistence Observatory, and which include the College of Psychologists and the Child Care Institute.

“From the moment when Situations are typified and it is made known in which schools and regions they occur. It allows us to make readings and this information will be valid because it will be complementary to what is already available, but which we consider little,” explained Pedro Barreiros.

In March, the School Coexistence Observatory was launched, with the aim of helping to report and monitor indiscipline in schools.

In September, the four associations met with the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation to present the project and disseminate data on indiscipline in schools, challenging the authority to participate in the initiative.

“We had an affirmative response from the minister.telling us that, through the General Directorate of Education or the Ministry’s services, they will look for someone to participate in our meetings,” reported the union leader.

Minister Fernando Alexandre is expected to be present at the XI National Convention of the FNE, Confap and ANDAEP, dedicated to the theme “Better school coexistence, but learning”, which will take place on Saturday in Aveiro.
