MSNBC Cross: ‘Failed’ in the War on Drugs, Blacks and Brunettes

On MSNBC’s “Cross Connection” on Saturday, host Tiffany Cross offered an episode on equal punishment for drug-related crimes, saying the so-called drug war is truly “a war against blacks and brunettes.”

“The idea that there are two separate criminal justice systems in the United States is certainly not new to many of us watching this show today,” he said. “But nothing contrasts more sharply with alleged crimes and penalties, particularly federal convictions for drug-related crimes. Crack cocaine, which was previously a 100 to 1 penalty rate compared to powder cocaine, means that for one gram of crack you will receive the same penalty as for 100 grams of cocaine.

“Who do you think is affected? President Obama reduced that ratio to 18:1 in 2010,” Cross continued. “But it’s not enough. There is much more to do. Now the Democrats are pushing a new bill called the EQUALITY Act to give equal sentences more than 40 years after this failed war on drugs, which is, to be honest, a war against blacks and brunettes in this country. ”
